The fifth season of La Más Draga, also known as La Quinta Ola (also stylized as La 5ta Ola) or Los Juegos del Brilloteo, was officially announced on February 3, 2022 through the show's official accounts. A casting announcement video was released, where the first three winners of the show, together with C-Pher, gave instructions on how to audition. This season notably removed the requirement about living in Mexico, allowing contestants from all over the world.

Similarly to last season, thirty contestants from the audition tapes were selected and asked to perform in a live audition. The live auditions were broadcast on March 15 and 16, with the only contestants confirmed to be cast being Deseos Fab, Fifí Estah and Liza Zan Zuzzi. The rest of the cast was revealed during the premiere or the day before it.

On September 12, 2022, the first promotional video for the season was released, revealing that the season would be released on September 27, 2022. The promotional video also confirmed Mexican TV personality Maca Carriedo as the new host for the season, as well as the inclusion of Raquel Martínez and Rogelio Suárez, who would be replacing Ricky Lips and Pepe y Teo, respectively.

At the end of the twelfth episode, Fifí Estah was crowned as both the winner and La Más Volada, with Paper Cut placing as the runner-up and Huma Kyle being crowned as the Miss Congeniality (La Más Querida) of the season.

• The total amount of auditions received for the season was 1,083.
• As shown on Detrás de La Más, filming for the season began on May 30, 2022.
• The contestants were given the list of challenges on March 17, 2022, meaning they had around two and a half months to prepare everything for the competition.
  • In order to avoid what happened on Season 3, where the majority of the runways featured repeated concepts, the contestants were asked to inform the production team about their inspirations beforehand. On a first come-first served basis, the first contestant to inform them about their particular inspiration would be the only one allowed to present it on that runway.
• Ank Cosart, Purga, La Kyliezz, Juana Guadalupe, Electra Walpurgis, Aries, Little Miss Salma, Visa, Lady Kero and Matraka are all featured at the beginning of the first episode during the montage showcasing some audition tapes submitted for the season.
• Following the premiere of the season, the contestants were invited along with the crew and C-Pher to New York City, with the premise of filming a music video at Times Square. Unbeknownst to them, they were invited there to be surprised by the promotional video for the season featuring them being displayed on the screens of One Times Square.
• This is the first season of La Más Draga...

    • This is also the first season to have fewer contestants than its predecessor, as La Más Draga (Season 4) featured 14 contestants.

  • Hidden Mistake is the drag niece of C-Pher.
  • Huma Kyle is the drag daughter of Iris XC.
  • Santa Lucía is the drag daughter of Iviza Lioza.
