The first season of Caravana das Drags was officially announced on October 6, 2021 via Prime Video's social media.

On January 30, 2023, the cast of Season 1 was officially announced. A premiere date of April 14 was announced on March 9, alongside footage from the season. On March 23, the official promo was released alongside the official trailer of Season 1, showcasing some of the guest judges.

The winner of Season 1 receives the title of "Sovereign Queen of the Caravan" as well as the cash prize of R$150.000 Reals.

On May 25, 2023, Hellena Borgys was crowned the winner of Season 1 with Gaia Do Brasil as a Runner-Up.

About the show

"Queens on the Run follows ten Brazilian drag artists from across the country in a competition for the title of "Sovereign Queen of the Caravan" as they travel to multiple Brazilian cities on a extravagantly decorated bus. Xuxa Meneghel, the most famous Brazilian television entertainer, and Ikaro Kadoshi, one of the most respected Brazilian drag queens, are the hosts. In the show, the participants face different challenges inspired by the cultural traditions of each city the bus passes through. The competition also has a judging panel composed by the hosts and special guests. At the end of each episode, one of the queens is eliminated until the finalists remain."

Trivia

• The contestants mention the Close and Final Show challenges as Mini and Maxi challenges (respectively) due to Drag Race.
  • They also use the call out order as a sort of ranking to determine who was in the top and bottom of the week.
  • They even call the dressing room, their "Work Room".
• Chandelly Kidman becomes the first contestant to be disqualified on the show after numerous times where she wore looks that offended black, country and northeastern people.
  • On the 6th episode's Close challenge, Chandelly had originally painted both her face and hands black for her look, however, on the final edit, she's shown with a silver-esque mug. It's speculated production told her to re-do the makeup so the episode could make it to air.
  • This, of course, made all the fans and audience of the show upset, including the queens themselves. The contestant refused to talk about the case, and when she actually did talk about it, she declined the rumors of having painted her mug black. Other contestants of the show spoke out about this and confirmed everything, with one of them even leaking a video of Chandelly before re-painting her face.
  • Since the first episode, the audience, fans and even queens themselves have criticized the editing of the show. Most said it's "too fast" and that "you don't even know if the winner should've won". This also applies to Chandelly's disqualification, where the fans said "the reason to why she was disqualified is unclear on the final editing".
