Drag Race España is a sister series to RuPaul's Drag Race from Spain. The series is produced by Atresmedia Televisión in collaboration with Buendía Estudios and executive produced by World of Wonder. The series search to crown España's Next Drag Superstar.

It premiered in May 2021 through the Atresplayer Premium payment in Spain, while in the United States and the rest of the world it is broadcast via streaming on WOW Presents Plus.

It is the sixth international version of the Drag Race franchise to be announced, following The Switch Drag Race, Drag Race Thailand, RuPaul's Drag Race UK, Canada's Drag Race and Drag Race Holland. The show was announced just 11 days after the finale of the debut season of the Dutch version.

On December 30, 2020, the opening of the selection process for the participants for the first season was announced. The jury and the presenter were announced in March 2021, while the contestants were announced on April 26, 2021. Two days later, Michelle Visage made the official presentation of the contestants and announced that the program would premiere in May of that same year. In August 2021, the format was renewed for a second edition. In January 2022, the continuation of the same jury for the second edition was confirmed, through an announcement on social networks, on February 20 were the presentation of the twelve contestants of the second season.[citation needed]

On June 16, 2022, Atresmedia Television in collaboration with Buendía Estudios, renewed the contest for a third season, and announced that Drag Race España: All Stars were in production. The series will become the first international franchise to adapt the All Stars format from RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars.[citation needed]
