Drag Race Italia is the Italian version of RuPaul's Drag Race. The show was first "confirmed" by an Italian website called davidemaggio.it.[3] The same news were then re-published by numerous other Italian news websites and spread all over social media, especially among Italian users and pages.

On July 1, 2021, Drag Race Italia was officially confirmed by World of Wonder through its Instagram accounts. In this occasion it was also announced that the show will soon be available on the company's online streaming service, WOW Presents Plus, to all countries excluding Italy, where it will be distributed by Discovery+.[4]

Season 1 and its cast was announced on 29 October, 2021 and the series aired on November 18, 2021. Eight contestants competed for the chance to win €30,000, a one-year supply of cosmetics, a crown and scepter from Fierce! Drag Jewels, the ability to be the ambassador for MAC Cosmetics for a year and the ability to produce a limited edition line of products with their name.

Unlike RuPaul's Drag Race, each season of Drag Race Italia features three join hosts/main judges, these being Chiara Francini, Priscilla and Tommaso Zorzi. Additionally, each episode has guest judges (usually one or two) who only appear in that episode.

This series highlights the contestants' run on the show, as well as various garments viewers did not see on the main stage. It is similar to what Whatcha Packin' is for RuPaul's Drag Race.
