Drag Race México was first teased on August 8, 2022 when World of Wonder published a casting call for Mexican drag artists through their official accounts. However, the series wasn't officially confirmed until December 12, 2022, along with the announcement that it would air on MTV and Paramount+ in Mexico.[2][3]
On May 7, 2023, a teaser was revealed at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards, showcasing the series' logo and confirming that the first season would be released on 2023. Furthermore, on May 12, 2023, Lolita Banana and Valentina were announced as the series' co-hosts during RuPaul's DragCon.[4][5]
On January 31, 2024, the series was removed from Paramount Plus, along with other international series, in a global move from the network to reduce international originals, manage costs, and focus on big U.S. studio productions.[6] Beginning with Season 2, Drag Race México became a WoWPresents+ Exclusive.[7]
