Art Simone is an Australian drag performer and contestant on the first season of RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under.

About[]

Art Simone is the current reigning “Queen of Australia” and has played roles in Australian feature films, theatrical shows, television programmes, and commercials; as well as being awarded Drag Performer of the Year for the last two years running.

Last year, Art travelled to Los Angeles and New York, representing Australia in the world’s largest drag convention, RuPaul’s DragCon.[2]

  • Art is the first contestant ever to walk into the Werk Room of RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under.
  • Prior to competing on Drag Race, Art starred in the WOW Presents Plus series Highway to Heel.
  • Art was the most followed queen on the first season of Down Under prior to the cast reveal, with over 120k followers on Instagram.
  • Fellow cast member Jojo Zaho is her drag niece making her and Jojo the fifth pair of queens to compete against their drag family on the same season. (After Alyssa Edwards and Vivienne Pinay of Season 5, Kennedy & Chi Chi of All Stars 3, Brita and Jan of season 12 LaLa Ri & Tamisha Iman of Season 13)
    • Coincidentally, they were the first two eliminated on Down Under, until Art returned in the competition later on.
  • Art achieved a rare feat of placing in the top in the first episode and getting eliminated in the second. This was previously achieved by Lashauwn Beyond (Season 4), Tatianna (All Stars 2) and Thorgy Thor (All Stars 3).
    • She is the second to achieve this feat and became a "returning queen" after Tatianna.
  • Art makes art therapy videos on YouTube.
  • She is the third queen in the franchise to be eliminated in Snatch Game and later return in the same season, after Kenya Michaels and Tatianna.
  • In Episode 3, the episode in between her first elimination and her return, Art sent a threatening letter to Coco Jumbo.
  • The reason as to why Art was brought back into the competition after being eliminated has so far been left unexplained, which has been a source of controversy amongst viewers, many of whom found it unfair to Coco Jumbo, who was not given any such chance to return to the competition, with viewers accusing the show of unfair favouritism towards Art.
  • Art is the third queen on an international season to reach the finale without a main challenge win, after Miss Abby OMG on Holland Season 1 and Ellie Diamond on UK Season 2. She was followed by Elecktra Bionic and Luquisha Lubamba on Italia Season 1.
  • Art is the second runner-up in the show's franchise to not win a challenge after Raven on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars (Season 1).
    • However, Art is the first runner-up overall as Raven had won 2 challenges on her original season.
  • Art confirmed in a deleted tweet that the producers lost the footage to her elimination in episode 2, and they made Art come back and reshoot her lip sync against Coco Jumbo 3 more times.[3]
    • Fans speculate that this is the reason she came back into the competition in episode 4.[citation needed]
