La Más Draga

The second season of La Más Draga was officially announced on August 6, 2018, with the producers announcing that the winner of the fourth installment of Monterrey Drag Project would be the first contestant cast for La Más Draga 2. With this they also revealed that unlike the first season, which only included Mexico City queens, this season would include contestants from all across the country.[1]

The casting period began on September 4, 2018, inviting interested drag performers to send their Instagram accounts in order to be considered for the live auditions. Based on the number of auditions received from each state, the live auditions were held in Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mérida. The casting period ended on October 26, 2018, with a total of five contestants cast through these auditions.[2]

On April 19, 2019, the first and only promotional video for the season was released, confirming the season would be released on April 30. The promotional video also revealed that Lorena Herrera would not return in any capacity and would instead be replaced by model, actress and television host, Vanessa Claudio. The rest of the crew remained in their same positions.[3]

At the end of the ninth episode, Alexis 3XL was crowned as the winner, with Sophia Jiménez placing as the runner-up and Amelia being crowned as the Miss Congeniality (La Más Querida) and La Más Volada of the season.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first season of La Más Draga...
    • ... with contestants from all over the country.
    • ... to introduce a point system.
      • This is the only season with a point system where the points given by each judge are shown instead of simply the total amount.
    • ... to feature a coach aiding the contestants, Paris Bang Bang.
    • ... with mini-challenges.
    • ... with Tú Las Traes, a companion web series where the eliminated contestants were able to show all the looks for the runways they didn't get to participate in.
    • ... with a bottom three and a bottom four having to lip sync.
    • ... to have an episode where no one won the main challenge, Episode 7.
    • ... with 3 finalists.
    • ... to award La Más Volada.
  • This is the first season of any drag competition...
  • Mexican singer and influencer Manelyk González was already signed to host this season, but was forced to withdraw at the last moment due to having to film another show in Chile. Vanessa Claudio was quickly called in as her replacement.[6]
  • The first draft made for the season featured a different order for the challenges, as well as some that were completely discarded and replaced. The original order went as follows:[7]
    • Episode 1 – La Más Típica
    • Episode 2 – La Más Piñata
    • Episode 3 – La Más Bella
    • Episode 4 – La Más Religiosa
    • Episode 5 – La Más Luchona
    • Episode 6 – La Más Prehispánica
    • Episode 7 – La Más Villana
      • The two discarded runways, La Más Bella and La Más Prehispánica would instead be featured in the following season.
  • Neither Vanessa Claudio nor Yari Mejía had singing experience prior to the season, making their debut for the runway songs.[8][9]
  • Most of the runway scenes of the first episode had to be recorded again due to production errors, so some of the critiques were not consistent with what was shown.[10]
  • Four contestants of the season are or were drag-related to previous La Más Draga alumni:
  • As evidenced by Amelia and Soro having the exact same makeup for both of their looks, the reunion and the promo were filmed on the same day.[11]
