Letal is the stage name of Bernardo Vázquez Guadarrama,[1] a Mexican drag performer and professional makeup artist. She is also known for being a regular judge on La Más Draga.

Drag Name Origin[]

Letal (which can be translated to Lethal) came from Miguel Bosé's character on High Heels that was also named Letal and that was a celebrity impersonator.[4]

Biography[]

Bernardo Vázquez, born in the state of Morelos, Mexico, studied plastic arts and painting from the age of 8 until he was 18. During his childhood, theater and musicals were very important to him. He remembers how the level of production of the first musical he saw, Beauty and the Beast, made him want to be a part of it. Along with the plastic arts, he studied classical dance.

He moved to Mexico City around the age of 18 and decided to stop what he was doing in order to work for the network Televisa. He joined Televisa on the recommendation of a friend and from then, he states that he really started working with makeup. After two years of being there, he was already designing and coordinating the Unitary Musical Programs that came out on Sundays like Bailando Por Un Sueño. His growth was fast and he had the opportunity to do the make up for actresses such as Silvia Pinal, Nina Bracho, Rebecca Jones, Yuri and Alejandra Guzmán. That is also where his close friendship with Susana Zavaleta was born.

In between all of this, he went back to using his oil brushes, because he didn't like the brushes that were on the makeup market. In the classes that Bernardo gave, he used those brushes and people asked him where they could buy them. Since most had been bought abroad, it would be hard to obtain them. This was what pushed him to create his own brushes.

His drag persona, Letal, then came around naturally. It all started a bit as a costume, for the theater and for his feminine side. He liked to design characters like Femme Fatales, so when he had the opportunity to do it for himself, Letal was born.[5]
