Jaida Essence Hall is the stage name of Jared Johnson, a Milwaukee drag queen, fashion designer, makeup artist, performer, and the winner of Season 12 of RuPaul's Drag Race.

Drag Name Origin

"Jaida" was the name a friend gave her the first time she did drag. "Essence" comes from when her boyfriend said she was "the essence of beauty." "Hall" comes from her drag mother, Tajma Hall.[3]

She was followed by Shea Couleé in All Stars 5 and Symone in Season 13, leaving Jaida third as a part of five queens of African-American descent in a row to win Drag Race.

  • Jaida was nominated for the 2020 People's Choice Award for "Choice Competition Contestant."
  • Jaida appeared on 'Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen' alongside Tatianna and Shea Couleé.
  • Jaida had the shortest reign of any winner, reigning for 10 months and 25 days (329 days). Her reign was 7 days shorter than Aquaria's, who held the record before her.

Drag Family

Jaida Essence Hall is the drag sister of Season 11 contestant Mercedes Iman Diamond, as they share a drag mother, Prada Diamond. She is also drag sisters with Season 4 contestant Dida Ritz, Season 8 contestant Naysha Lopez, and Season 13 contestant Kahmora Hall (who's the drag mother of Season 11 contestant Soju, making Jaida her drag aunt) as the they share a drag mother, Tajma Hall. Jaida has a drag daughter named Becky Essence Hall.
