Bio

González has actively participated in the renewal of musicological teaching in Chile, contributing to the creation and conduction of the Magister in Musicology at the University of Chile (1993) and the Bachelor's Degree in Musicology from the Catholic University of Chile (2003), and the implementation of the “Samuel Claro Valdés” Latin American Musicology Award (1998).

González obtained his Ph.D. in Musicology at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1991. He is a professor and researcher at the Institute of Music of the Pontificia Universidad Católica in Chile and president of the Branch Latin American of the International Association for Popular Music Studies.

He has published nearly 30 musicological articles in magazines in Latin America and the United States and has presented nearly 40 papers at conferences held in numerous Latin American and European countries. His main line of research has led him to propose the field of Popular Musicology in Latin America, which privileges the social historical and socio-aesthetic study of 20th century popular music, making contributions in the methodological field and the history of the popular music in Chile and its spheres of influence.

At the same time, he has studied twentieth century Chilean composers, considering their relationship with the European avant-gardes and local languages.
