Season 5 of La Más Draga was officially announced on February 3, 2022 through the show's Instagram and YouTube accounts. A casting announcement video was released, where the previous winners, Deborah La Grande, Alexis 3XL and Aviesc Who?, as well as C-Pher, gave instructions on how to audition. Auditions were closed on February 18, 2022.
The requirements were:
- Being at least 18 years old.
- Be able to speak Spanish.
Thirty contestants from the audition tapes were then selected and asked to perform in a live audition. With the previous requirement about living in Mexico being removed, this season will allow contestants from all over the world.[1]
Selected Contestants
On February 22, 2022, the show's official Instagram account published a video introducing 30 drag artists who were selected from 1083 audition tapes to perform in a live audition that took place in Mexico City. The auditions were broadcast on March 15 and March 16, 2022 through a private online show only available on Ticketmaster to those who purchased a virtual ticket. Who bought the tickets also had the possibility to vote for La Más Votada, a contestant who was directly cast without going through any further auditions. This time, the poll was conducted on both dates, meaning two contestants ended up as Las Más Votadas: Deseos Fab and Liza Zan Zuzzi. Additionally, another contestant was cast by the judges for being the best one at the auditions: Fifi Estah.[2]

The live auditions were judged by the four previous winners: Deborah La Grande, Alexis 3XL, Aviesc Who? and Rebel Mörk, and hosted by La Más Draga alumni Madison and Georgiana. Rudy Reyes was in charge of interviewing the auditionees backstage. The auditions consisted of a runway segment and a one-on-one lipsync battle, though no winners were announced from each lipsync. All the songs were taken from La Más Draga soundtrack.
