A Lip Sync for Your Life is the most common style of lip sync used on RuPaul's Drag Race UK.
At the end of each episode, the two (or sometimes more) queens who performed worst in that week's challenge will be placed up for elimination, indicating that they must lip sync for their life. Before the lip sync begins, RuPaul will state the following to the queens:
"Two queens stand before me. Ladies, this is your last chance to impress me, and save yourself from elimination. The time has come... for you to lip sync... FOR. YOUR. LIFE. Good luck, and don't fuck it up."
Following the lip sync, the queen who (in Ru's opinion) performed best will be told "Shantay, you stay," while the eliminated queen will be asked to "Sashay away." In certain cases, both contestants may end up being saved by Ru, or alternatively, more than one queen may be eliminated.
Lip Sync for the Win
In episodes where every queen performs well during a challenge, or where particular queens stood out the most to Ru, the UK's franchise adopted the Lip Sync for the Win first seen in season 12 of the original American franchise. At the end of such episodes, or before RuPaul chooses a bottom two who would Lip Sync for Their Lives, the queens who performed the best in that week's challenge will be deemed the top two queens, indicating that they must lip sync against each other to win a RuPeter Badge. Before the lip sync begins, RuPaul will state the following to the queens:
"Two queens stand before me. I've consulted with the judges, but the final decision is mine to make. Ladies, this is your chance to impress me, and earn... a RuPeter Badge. The time has come... for you to lip sync... FOR. THE. WIN. Good luck, and don't fuck it up.
"Two top queens stand before me. Prior to tonight, you were asked to prepare a lip-sync performance of [song title] by [artist]. The time has come... for you to lip sync... FOR. THE. WIN. Good luck, and don't fuck it up.
Following the lip sync, the queen who (in Ru's opinion) performed best will be told that they won that week's challenge, while the losing queen will be deemed safe.
Final Lip Sync
While still referred to as a "Lip Sync for Your Life", the final lip sync of each season follows a slightly different format:
- Beginning Season 1, the weakest queen(s) from the Top 3 or Top 4 can be eliminated by RuPaul without being given the chance to Lip Sync. The remaining finalists would then Lip Sync for Their Lives, with Ru choosing the season's winner based on this lip sync as well as each queen's performance throughout the season.
