Miss Congeniality

Not to be confused with Fan Favorite, a title determined by a fan vote

Miss Congeniality is the title awarded to the contestants who are regarded as the kindest, most helpful ones on their respective seasons. Prior to the tenth season of RuPaul's Drag Race, the fans determined which contestant won the title, but has since been changed to the title being decided amongst the contestants themselves.

Originating from the first season of the original American series, the title was announced on the reunion special from the first three seasons which aired after the grand finale. From the fourth season onward, the grand finale and the reunion were combined, the crowning of the season's Miss Congeniality would take place right before the winner's crowning. The only exception being the ninth season as the current reigning Miss Congeniality at the time, Cynthia Lee Fontaine, had competed on the season and handed down the title at the reunion a week before the grand finale.

Across the franchise, the title is known also known as Mejor Compañera (The Switch Drag Race), Miss Simpatía (Drag Race España, Drag Race España: All Stars and Drag Race México), Miss Drag Simpatia (Drag Race Italia, Season 1–2), Miss Sympathie (Drag Race France and Drag Race Belgique, Season 2), Miss Simpatia (Drag Race Brasil), Miss Darling (Drag Race Germany), and Miss Global Peacemaker (RuPaul's Drag Race Global All Stars).

The title is notably absent from every season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, Drag Race Down Under, and Drag Race Sverige, which have all chosen to not continue the tradition. RuPaul's Drag Race UK initially did not crown the Miss Congeniality title during its first five seasons until eventually following tradition come its sixth season.

Moon is the first queen to be crowned Miss Congeniality after quitting the competition.
Sapphira Cristál and Xunami Muse are the first pair of contestants to tie for the title, both being crowned Miss Congeniality. They would soon be followed by Nina de la Fuente and Luna Lansman.
Jessica Parker has had the longest reign out of all Miss Congenialities of the Drag Race franchise; a reign that is still ongoing. As of January 2025, she has been reigning for almost 7 years.
- This is due to the fact that the second season did not feature a Mejor Compañera.
B Ella is the only Miss Congeniality to have reigned exactly for a year (365 days).
B Ella and Maya B'Haro are the only pair of Misses Congeniality to have been crowned on the same date (April 5) of two separate years.
Maya B'Haro is the longest-serving Miss Congeniality, capping her reign at 5 years, 8 months, 19 days on 18th December 2024.
Six sets of Miss Congenialities have reigned the same amount of time:

Nina West, Sapphira Cristál, Norma Bell and Luna Lansman are the only Miss Congenialities who won more maxi challenges than the winners of their respective seasons.
Interestingly, three Miss Congenialities share the name Nina (Nina Flowers, Nina West and Nina de la Fuente), making it the most common name between the winners of the title.
- Nina Bo'nina Brown is currently the only contestant in the franchise to also share the name but not be awarded the title.

Controversies[]

Sin título-1 — Valentina being crowned by the predecessor Cynthia Lee Fontaine.

Season 9's Miss Congeniality, Valentina, was dubbed to be a 'fan-favorite', rather than congenial by the other season 9 girls, as they felt she played up the role to the camera, but was not actually congenial with the rest of the girls during, and after the filming of the season. This 'Miss Congeniality versus Fan-Favorite' controversy also brought up winners of previous seasons (mainly Pandora Boxx, BenDeLaCreme, and Katya) as even though they were congenial, the fans felt that other queens in their seasons were more congenial, but the winners were more beloved by the fans and they felt that the queens were eliminated too early. Valentina has since admitted on her "Portrait of a Queen" that she won the Miss Congeniality vote because her fans want her to 'win something' at that time, even claiming that Cynthia Lee Fontaine or Peppermint should have won the title instead.^[4]

This made fans want a fan-favorite and congeniality divide, where fan-favorite was voted for by the fans and Miss Congeniality was chosen by the queens on the season.

Season 10's voting also sparked controversy, as the voting had been hacked by robots, which resulted in The Vixen taking the lead with 18 million votes. The hacking was later resolved by the show, which, after the hacking, the Season 10 queens themselves voted. This also showed that the producers listened to the fans after last season's controversy and allowed the queens to choose their own "Miss Congeniality". The queens continued to choose Miss Congeniality after Season 10.
