Raquel Becerra Martínez,[1] more commonly known simply as Raquel Martínez, is a Spanish-Mexican actress and dancer. She is also known for being a regular judge on La Más Draga since its fifth season.
Originally from Sevilla, Andalucía, España, Raquel Martínez began her artistic career in Spain, showing a love for performance, dancing and acting from an early age. However, she didn't start acting professionally until she was a few years older, around the age of 20; it was then she would start appearing in diverse projects, including roles in Spanish musical theater and television productions. Television was what truly motivated her to travel, in search of more opportunities, to other countries like Italy and, most recently, México.
Over the course of her career, Martínez has managed to elevate herself to one of the “favorites” within the LGBT+ community. She would become the very first trans woman to be cast in a series produced and aired by Grupo Televisa, "Los Pecados De Barbara". Her character, Odaya, quickly gained the affection of the public.
Aside from acting, Martínez has also made her presence known in Ibiza, proving that she is a dancer of international influence. Additionally, she has collaborated with globally-recognized brands in their movements toward inclusion and diversity through their promotions, such as Levi’s Jeans, l’Oreal and NYX Cosmetics, among others.
Martínez has, undoubtedly, become an emblem of the trans community; she has shown that she is willing to defend her community at all costs, and demonstrates her own pride in it with every opportunity that arises. She frequently remarks on how important her work is to her, as she has been given multiple platforms for positive exposure within the media, at times within industries or regions not known for being liberal-minded or inclusive.[5]
