Raven van Dorst is a a Dutch rock artist, actor and presenter. They are lead singer and guitarist in the band Dool and was previously known under the stage name Elle Bandita. They are a judge on the second season of Drag Race Holland, alternating with Carlo Boszhard.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Raven was born with true hermaphroditism and calls themselves hermaphrodite. Adviced by the doctor, their parents had Van Dorst operated on so that they would have female genitalia only.[2][1]

Van Dorst played in the band Bad Candy. After Van Dorst left the band in 2004, the artist embarked on a solo career as well as performing as part of the pop-punk band The Riplets. As the guitarist of garage-punk band Anne Frank Zappa, Van Dorst released the vinyl-EP "AFZ" in 2010.

Career[]

In December 2005, Van Dorst released their first solo album, entitled Love Juice, under the name Elle Bandita. This was followed by the albums Queen of Fools (2009) and Elle Bandita (2014). From the release of Queen of Fools, Van Dorst has been joined on stage by a live band, consisting of Vincent Niks (guitar), Menno "Mono" Bouma (bass), Micha "Hands" Haring (drums) and Jesse den Dulk (keyboards). In that year, the band performed at the Metropolis Festival, The Great Escape (UK), Lowlands and in Melkweg Amsterdam. In January 2019, Van Dorst stated that they had left the alter ego 'Elle Bandita' behind for good.

  • Van Dorst announced in 2021 that they wanted to part with their female identity and would go by they/them pronouns in the future.[1]
