Ricky Lips is the stage name of Ricardo Vázquez Domínguez,[1] a Mexican drag performer and celebrity impersonator. She is also known for being a regular judge on both the first season of Versus Drag Queens: Edición México and the fourth season of La Más Draga.
Drag Name Origin[]
Previously only using her real name when performing, she was asked to create a drag name when she began appearing on the talkshow Guau!. She chose Ricky from her real name, Ricardo, while Lips came from El Show de Lips, the show in which she began performing.[4]
Biography[]
Ricardo Vázquez Domínguez, better known as Ricky Lips, is without a doubt the best celebrity impersonator in Mexico, as her characterizations go beyond appearance. She studies each character in such a way that she blends in with them, achieving spectacular results.
Ricky Lips is originally from the state of Zacatecas, but she has mostly developed her career in Guadalajara, given visibility to the state of Jalisco through her impressive transformations into, for example, Gloria Trevi, Mónica Naranjo and María José, three of her favorite muses among many other stars that she dominates perfectly.
Her beginnings with the Lips Show in the famous Mónicas nightclub in Guadalajara, Jalisco, gave her the skills and knowledge to jump to television with shows like Guau from Telehit and her talent and perseverance have helped her thrive among the new generations, participating in music videos, performances on big stages and with great artists. She has even ventured into programs like Versus Drag Queens: Edición México and La Más Draga.
Without a doubt, her charisma and modesty have led her to be the darling of the public and that is why many know her as La Máxima and La Mil Rostros de México.[5][6]
Trivia[]
- Her very first impersonation was of María Conchita Alonso.[7]
- She once performed at a Universal Studios party, impersonating Celine Dion in front of the producers of Titanic.[8]
- She was considered to appear as a judge on La Más Draga (Season 1) but ultimately could not due to her filming Versus Drag Queens: Edición México (Season 1) at the same time.[9]
- Coincidentally, she ended up giving critiques to Tiresias on both shows.
- Similarly, she critiqued Gvajardo and Liza Zan Zuzzi on both Versus and on their respective finales of La Más Draga.
- Ricky caused the very first double elimination of La Más Draga.
- Ricky was the first one to do it across all televised drag competitions while only being a guest judge on the episode.
- She has added that she eliminated both Aviesc Who? and Wynter after feeling that neither of them delivered on the Impersonation Challenge or in the lipsync.[7]
- Ricky had already worked with Iriam Vital, one of the models of the show, on Guau!. He choreographed the dance numbers for Ricky and the other members of the cast.[10]
- Before officially joining the main judges' panel on La Más Draga 4, Ricky had already participated as a guest judge on both the second and third seasons of the show.
- Following her departure as a main judge at the end of La Más Draga (Season 4), Ricky returned once again to guest judge at the finale of La Más Draga (Season 5). This currently makes La Más Draga (Season 1) the only season to not feature Ricky Lips.
- For her appearance on this season, Ricky wasn't directly invited like before and instead had to win a short contest on Instagram where she competed against other drag performers for a spot as a judge at the finale.[11]
- Out of all the past and present members of the panel of judges, Ricky and Johnny Carmona are the only ones to not have been featured in any of the official soundtracks for La Más Draga.
- Ricky is the drag mother of fellow celebrity impersonator, Cristian Peralta, from Drag Race México.[12]
