The seventeenth season of RuPaul's Drag Race was officially announced by World of Wonder on October 30, 2023. Casting opened the same day with deadline of January 5, 2024.[2]

On November 22, 2024, RuPaul's Drag Race social media accounts announced that Season 17 will premiere January 2025 on MTV.[3]

The cast of Season 17 was officially announced on December 4, 2024, and the premiere was officially announced to be January 3, 2025.[4] On February 2, 2025, it was revealed that Law Roach would be joining the judges panel as a rotating judge.[1]

The second episode was dedicated to The Vivienne, whose passing was announced on January 5, 2025.

On April 18, 2025, Onya Nurve was crowned as the winner of Season 17 with Jewels Sparkles placing as the Runner-up. Crystal Envy won the title of Miss Congeniality and Suzie Toot won the title of Queen of She Done Already Done Had Herses.
