The fifth season of RuPaul's Drag Race announced its cast on November 16th, 2012[1], and premiered on January 28, 2013. The winner of Season 5 walked away with the title of "America's Next Drag Superstar," along with a lifetime supply of Colorevolution Cosmetics, a one of a kind trip courtesy of AlandChuck.travel, a headlining spot on Logo's Drag Race Tour featuring Absolut Vodka, and a cash prize of $100,000.

The winner of the fifth season of RuPaul's Drag Race was Jinkx Monsoon, with Alaska and Roxxxy Andrews placing as the runner-ups and Ivy Winters winning Miss Congeniality.

Episode 1: "RuPaullywood or Bust"[]

Synopsis: In the season five premiere, fourteen new drag queens compete for the title of America's Next Drag Superstar with a prize package including a life time supply of Color Evolution cosmetics, a one of a kind trip courtesy of ALandCHUCK.travel, headline Logo's Drag Race tour featuring Absolut Vodka cocktails perfected, and $100,000. In the mini challenge, they have an "underwater serving glamor" photo shoot. In the main challenge, they dumpster dive for materials to create an "award winning look that screams Hollywood red carpet couture" to wear on the runway.

  • Episode 4 included the first double elimination in series history.
  • In Episode 7, Alyssa Edwards and Roxxxy Andrews ended up in the bottom two, but both got a second chance to stay as there was no elimination that week.
  • No elimination occurred in Episode 12 as the winner was crowned during Episode 14, the reunion episode.
  • The lip-sync assassin of Season 5 is Coco Montrese, appearing in 4 lip syncs. Coco Montrese sent home Monica Beverly Hillz, Jade Jolie and Alyssa Edwards. She was sent home by Detox in her 4th lip-sync.
  • This is the first Drag Race cast to feature 14 contestants.
  • Many milestones were broken during this season:
    • Episode 8 marks the first time in Drag Race herstory that a season has more than four consecutive different main-challenge winners, with eight consecutive different winners.
      • Season 5 is also the season with the most main challenge winners overall, having eight in total.

  • All three finalists of the season have gone on to win the Reading Challenge at some point in their Drag Race careers. Alaska won it this season as well as on All Stars 2, Jinkx won it on All Stars 7, and Roxxxy won it on All Stars 9.
