RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars is the sister series to RuPaul's Drag Race and premiered on October 22, 2012. The series show cases past contestants from RuPaul's Drag Race, as they compete to become immortalized in the Drag Race Hall of Fame and a cash prize of $100,000.
The first season started six months after the finale of Season 4, and 12 queens from the first four seasons competed, with Chad Michaels from Season 4 winning. This season featured a major twist to the show's format being that the 12 contestants would be paired off to compete in the challenges. This was not received well by the queens or the audience and this format has not appeared since this season.
The second season aired in 2016, a few months after the Season 8 finale, and 10 queens from Season 2 to Season 7 competed, with Alaska from Season 5 winning. This season began a new format that subsequent All Stars Seasons followed; instead of the bottom 2 lip-syncing for their lives, the Top Two of every challenge will Lip Sync for their Legacy, where the winner will receive a cash tip of $10,000 and the power to eliminate one of the bottom queens.
The third season aired in January 2018, a few months after the finale of Season 9, and 10 queens from Seasons 1 to 3, and Seasons 6 to 9 competed, with Trixie Mattel from Season 7 winning a spot in the Hall of Fame.
The fourth season aired on December 2018, making it the third season to air in a single year, and 10 queens from Season 3 to 4, and Seasons 6 to 10 competed, with both Monét X Change and Trinity The Tuck from Seasons 10 and 9 respectively both making herstory by having two contestants win.
The fifth season aired on June 2020, one week after the Season 12 finale, with queens from Seasons 1 to 3, and Seasons 8 to 10 competing. This season introduced a new format. Instead of having a Top Two, this season has a Top All Star. Each week, the Top All Star will lip sync for her legacy against a Lip Sync Assassin from a previous season; if the All Star wins the lip sync, she’ll get the power to eliminate a fellow queen, if the Assassin wins, the eliminated queen will be determined after a majority vote by the rest of the contestants, or the RuMocracy, and the $10,000 tip rolls over to further episodes, until an All Star queen wins a lip sync. On July 24th 2020, Shea Couleé was announced winner of All Stars 5, winning a spot in the Hall Of Fame.
The sixth season aired on June 2021, two months after the Season 13 finale, with queens from Seasons 2 to 7, and Seasons 9 to 12 competing. The "Lip-Sync Assassin" twist was kept for this season. On September 2nd 2021, Kylie Sonique Love was announced winner of All Stars 6, winning a spot in the Hall Of Fame.
The seventh season aired on May 20 2022, one month after the Season 14 finale, with queens from Seasons 3, Seasons 5, Seasons 9 to 12 and UK Season 1 competing. All Stars 7 is the first All Winners Season of the Drag Race Franchise.
