RuPaul's Drag Race UK (also known as Drag Race UK) is a sister series to RuPaul's Drag Race with host RuPaul and main judge Michelle Visage traveling across the pond to contribute to the series.
RuPaul's Drag Race UK airs on the BBC which is a public broadcasting company funded by taxes. Because of this, competitive television shows which air on the BBC may not use commercial sponsorships (like challenge prizes), nor are they allowed to give cash prizes. According to the "Framework for Funding Prizes and Awards" of the BBC, prizes should be original and something money cannot buy, hence the Ru Peter Badge that contestants earn when they win a challenge.[1]
Michelle Visage accidentally leaked 6 contestants of Season 2 during a Instagram live on March 19, 2020 during the filming time.[2]
On November 2nd 2020, it was announced that the show had been renewed for Season 3 with the deadline to register being November 14th 2020 with the season speculated to also air in 2021.[3]
On December 15th 2020, BBC announced that Season 2 would air in January 14th 2021 with the Promo and Meet the Queens being revealed the following day.
On August 18th 2021, BBC announced that Season 3 would air in September 23rd 2021 along with the Promo and Meet the Queens being revealed on the same day.
On September 1st 2022, BBC announced that Season 4 would air in September 22nd 2022. The following day, it was announced that the show was renewed for Season 5 by BBC Three via X with the deadline to register being November 16th 2022.[4]
As of June 2025, there has been 67 contestants across the 6 seasons which have aired, two of whom are deceased (Cherry Valentine and The Vivienne) and one of whom has competed twice (Veronica Green). A total of 12 UK contestants have returned to represent the UK in other series including RuPaul's Drag Race UK vs the World, RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, Canada's Drag Race: Canada vs the World and RuPaul's Drag Race Global All Stars.
