Snatch Game is a main challenge, where contestants showcase their best celebrity impersonations in a game show setting. The Snatch Game challenge was first featured in Season 2 of RuPaul's Drag Race, where it became a popular fan favorite and was subsequently featured again in Seasons 3-14, and is a highly anticipated episode by viewers. It has subsequently been featured in All Stars, Drag Race Thailand, RuPaul's Drag Race UK, Canada's Drag Race, Drag Race Holland, RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under and Drag Race España.
Snatch Game is a parody of the classic TV show, "Match Game", which aired from 1962 to 1991, where contestants attempted to match celebrities' answers to "fill-in-the-blank" questions. The term snatch is also used as a vulgar slang term referring to a woman's vagina, hence the name Snatch Game, since the contestants are often times (but not always) impersonating women.
On recent All Stars seasons, the Snatch Game has parodied other popular TV shows; notably, Snatch Game of Love is a parody of "The Dating Game." Additionally, on RuPaul's Drag Race UK vs the World, Snatch Game: Family Edition parodied "Family Feud."
Rules of Snatch Game
- RuPaul shouts out a random question from a deck of cards and tells it to one of the guest stars/celebrities. The queens must listen to the question and fill in the blank with their own answer.
- The queens' answers must match the guest celebrities in order to gain points.
- If a queen gets a correct, matching answer, one of the celebrities gets a point.
- At the end of the game, the points do not matter and have no effect on judging, since the queens are judged by their impersonation and comedy.

Trivia
- The segment initially featured nine panelists (per the original Match Game format), while later seasons varied the number.
- In the second episode of the first season of All Stars, a challenge called Gaff - In took place, in which the queens delivered celebrity impersonations by teams and had to write original comedy material for a Laugh-In style sketch show, which was done in place of the Snatch Game. The impersonations were as follows: Raven as Bea Arthur, Jujubee as Fran Drescher, Nina Flowers as La Lupe, Tammie Brown as Tammy Faye Messner, Manila Luzon as Madonna, Latrice Royale as Oprah Winfrey, Alexis Mateo as Shakira, Yara Sofia as Charo, Shannel as Lucille Ball and Chad Michaels as Bette Davis.
- On the fourth, fifth and sixth seasons of All Stars, and the second season of Thailand, the Snatch Game segment was based on The Dating Game show.
- On the first season of UK Vs The World, the Snatch Game segment was based on Family Feud.
- Season 6's Snatch Game episode is the highest rated RuPaul's Drag Race episode on IMDb with a score of 9.3/10.[1]
- Celebrities who have been impersonated on Snatch Game will often comment on their impersonation, usually praising the queen who impersonated them. Judge Judy, Lady Bunny, Tamar Braxton, Carol Channing, and Nancy Grace have all had pre-taped messages aired on the show talking about how they enjoyed their impersonations. Amanda Lepore also had a pre-taped message but it was cut from the show.
- Patricia Quinn, however, was unimpressed with Aiden Zhane's portrayal of her and actually found it offensive.[2] Similarly, Jenny Bui also found Gia Gunn's impersonation of her on Snatch Game as offensive.[3]
- Tamar Braxton, Michelle Visage, Gemma Collins and Katie Price are the only celebrities to be impersonated on the show and later appear as guest celebrities on Snatch Game.
- Tamar Braxton, Raven-Symoné, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Kesha, Jenifer Lewis, Tiffany Pollard, Lisa Rinna, Nicki Minaj, and Leslie Jones are the only celebrities to have both been impersonated on the show and appeared as guest judges on the US version while Metinee "Lukkade" Kingpayom appeared as a guest judge and character in the Thai version.
- Tamar Braxton and Metinee "Lukkade" Kingpayom are the only celebrities in the franchise to date to pull off the hat-trick of being impersonated on Snatch Game, appearing as a guest celebrity to answer questions on Snatch Game, and appearing as a guest judge on the runway.
- While Tamar is the first to achieve this feat, having been impersonated in US Season 5 and appearing as a guest celebrity and judging for the first time in US Season 7, Lukkade is the first to accomplish it in a single episode, doing so in Drag Race Thailand Season 1.
- Though Leslie Jones did not appear as one of the guest celebrities answering questions during the actual Snatch Game, she is the first celebrity on the US version and second in the overall franchise to appear as a guest judge and be impersonated in the same season.
- Raven van Dorst is the first person to be impersonated in Snatch Game (by Ma'Ma Queen on the first Dutch season) and later become a permanent judge (on the second Dutch season).
- They are also the first person to change their name after being impersonated on Snatch Game.
- Though Kennedy Davenport is widely acknowledged to be the first queen to impersonate a male on Snatch Game, technically this accolade belongs to Jessica Wild, who impersonated RuPaul in Season 2's Snatch Game. Kennedy is also preceded by Alaska, who portrayed Lady Bunny in Season 5, and Violet Chachki and Max (who played Alyssa Edwards and Sharon Needles respectively) actually competed in the same Snatch Game as her.
- Kennedy was, however, the first to impersonate a male who is not a drag queen.
- Thorgy Thor, Roxxxy Andrews, Aja, Nina Bo'Nina Brown, Trixie Mattel, BenDeLaCreme, Nina West, Sum Ting Wong, The Vivienne, Widow Von'Du, Alexis Mateo, Shea Couleé, Ellie Diamond, A'Whora, Tina Burner, Kandy Muse, Utica Queen, Kita Mean, Scarlett Harlett, Gia Metric and Eve 6000 have since all impersonated males in Snatch Game.
- Out of these queens, only Kennedy Davenport, Thorgy Thor, BenDeLaCreme, Sum Ting Wong, The Vivienne, Widow Von'Du, Alexis Mateo, Shea Couleé, A'Whora, Tina Burner, Kandy Muse, Utica Queen, Kita Mean, Scarlett Harlett, Gia Metric and Eve 6000 impersonated a male celebrity who is not a drag queen.
- Nina West and Ellie Diamond both technically fall into this category since Harvey Fierstein is an actor and not a drag queen, but Nina portrayed him in female drag (since Fierstein is well-known for playing 'butch' female characters like Edna Turnblad in the musical Hairspray). Similarly, Ellie portrayed actor Matt Lucas in female drag as his character Vicky Pollard, as seen on the TV-show Little Britain.
- Kim Chi portrayed a male character, but as a gender-bent version as 'Kimmy Jong-un' (the 'sister' of the eponymous North Korean leader). This also technically makes her the first queen to not impersonate a real person.
- Out of all of these queens, Kennedy Davenport, BenDeLaCreme, The Vivienne and Shea Couleé won for their respective impressions.
- Max, Roxxxy Andrews, Trixie Mattel, Sum Ting Wong and Utica Queen are the only queens to place in the bottom after impersonating a male celebrity. However, Max and Sum Ting Wong were the only two to be eliminated.
- Widow Von'Du is the second queen, after Nina West, to portray both a male and female celebrity in the same Snatch Game.
- Kylie Sonique Love was the first queen ever eliminated on a Snatch Game episode.
- Season 2 is the only season where both the queen (Sahara Davenport) and the celebrity they impersonated on Snatch Game (Whitney Houston) have passed away since the episode was aired.
- The only other celebrities that have passed away since they were impersonated on Snatch Game are Carol Channing, Amy Winehouse, Aretha Franklin, Big Ang, and Little Richard. Any other deceased celebrities that have been portrayed (e.g. Anna Nicole Smith, Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson etc.) had already died prior to their respective impressions.
- Only three queens were ever immune from elimination in Snatch Game prior to competing in it. These were Tyra Sanchez, Manila Luzon and Alyssa Edwards.
- The latter became the final queen to ever win immunity on RuPaul's Drag Race, due to her performance as Katy Perry being considered one of the worst in Snatch Game herstory (for which she was famously forced by Ru to tweet an apology to Perry).[4]
- Season 7 was the first regular season to have two winners in Snatch Game.
- Season 8's guest celebrities, Gigi Hadid and Chanel Iman, apparently gave such poor answers to Ru's questions that he angrily stormed off set at one point to scold the producers for not preparing them better.
- Bob The Drag Queen is the first queen to have impersonated two characters in one Snatch Game, playing Uzo Aduba and Carol Channing in Season 8.
- Derrick Barry, Kenya Michaels, Trixie Mattel, Petchra, JAJA, Asia O'Hara, and Valentina are the only queens to impersonate celebrities who had already been impersonated and do worse in the challenge than the queen who originally did them.
- Kim Chi was the first queen to portray a fictional character (playing 'Kimmy Jong-un'), though said character's likeness was based upon the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. She has since been followed by Gigi Goode, who portrayed Sophia (as 'Maria the Robot').
- Cher was the first celebrity to be impersonated in back-to-back seasons, being played by Delta Work in US Season 3 and Chad Michaels in US Season 4. She has since been joined by:
- Nancy Grace (Acid Betty - Season 8, Detox - All Stars 2)
- Maya Angelou (Chi Chi DeVayne - All Stars 3, Monet X Change - Season 10)
- Tiffany Haddish (Monique Heart - All Stars 4, A'keria C. Davenport - Season 11)
- Eartha Kitt (Valentina - All Stars 4, Jujubee - All Stars 5)
- With the exception of Tyra Sanchez, Bob The Drag Queen, Aquaria and Natalia Pliacam every season winner sat in the same row on the Snatch Game panel.
- Latrice Royale, Manila Luzon, Alexis Mateo, Jujubee and Ginger Minj are the queens with most appearances on Snatch Game / Gaff-In, with three times each.
- Out of the 28 queens who competed in Snatch Game /Gaff-In more than once, Tatianna and Kennedy Davenport hold the record for biggest difference in placement, going from winning their first Snatch Game to being in the bottom during their second one. However, Tatianna was eliminated in her second challenge.
- Out of the 26 queens who competed in Snatch Game /Gaff-In more than once, Detox, Gia Gunn, and Latrice Royale are the only queens to land in the bottom twice.
- Born in 1479, the Gioconda is the oldest celebrity ever impersonated in Snatch Game, with the youngest one being Blue Ivy Carter, at 6 years old.
- Though not human, Sophia "Maria" the Robot (played by Gigi Goode) is technically the youngest celebrity impersonated, having been activated on February 14, 2016. Thus making her 4 years old when her impression aired.
- Of the celebrities who have been impersonated more than once, Beyoncé, Nancy Grace, Lady Gaga, Amy Winehouse, Rue McClanahan and Julia Child are the only ones who have been ranked 'low' more than once, with two 'bottom' placements each.
- If the All Stars 5 rule of "if you're not the top queen, you're in the bottom," enacted starting with that season's Snatch Game episode, is taken into consideration then Eartha Kitt also lands in the bottom twice and Lady Gaga adds a third, a record among celebrities impersonated on the show.
- The one queen not to be ranked low for playing Beyoncé, Tyra Sanchez, had immunity from her prior win and was warned that she was lucky to have had it due to her poor impersonation.
- Britney Spears, Carol Channing and Charo are the only celebrities impersonated twice where both of the impersonators were in the top placements for their good performances.
- BenDeLaCreme and Ginger Minj are the only queens to win Snatch Game twice, Ben winning in Season 6 and All Stars 3 and Ginger winning in Season 7 and All Stars 6.
- Coincidentally, both of them involved a tie. Ben won alongside Shangela in All Stars 3, and Ginger won alongside Kennedy Davenport in Season 7.
- Asia O' Hara and The Vixen are the first queens to portray a parent-child relationship on Snatch Game with Asia playing Beyoncé and The Vixen playing her daughter Blue Ivy.
- Kristin Chenoweth has been the only celebrity to participate as a panelist in Snatch Game.
- A miniature version of Snatch Game was played in the spin-off Secret Celebrity Drag Race, marking the first time celebrities participated in-drag and impersonating other celebrities.
- In this iteration, Bob The Drag Queen participated as herself, similarly to Chenoweth.
- A miniature version of Snatch Game was played in the spin-off Secret Celebrity Drag Race, marking the first time celebrities participated in-drag and impersonating other celebrities.
- Bob The Drag Queen, Jinkx Monsoon, Alaska, Natalia Pliacam, Aquaria, Trinity The Tuck, The Vivienne, Shea Couleé and Envy Peru are the only season winners to win the Snatch Game.
- Tyra Sanchez, Violet Chachki, Trixie Mattel, Monét X Change, Yvie Oddly, Jaida Essence Hall, Priyanka, Symone, Kita Mean and Carmen Farala are the season winners, who did not score high or win their Snatch Game.
- Lawrence Chaney, Trixie Mattel, Yvie Oddly and Priyanka are the only season winners to have landed in the bottom during the Snatch Game episode.
- Lawrence Chaney, Yvie Oddly and Priyanka are the only winners to lip-sync for their life in a Snatch Game episode.
- Stacy Layne Matthews, Alexis Michelle, Tormai, Gigi Goode, Gottmik, Anita Wigl'It and Killer Queen are the only queens to win Snatch Game and neither win their seasons nor competed on a season of All Stars.
- The smallest group of contestants participating in a round of Snatch Game is 5, which happened in Drag Race Thailand Season 2.
- If counting spin-offs, the Secret Celebrity Drag Race edition of the American franchise featured only three competing contestants, four if including guest mentor Bob the Drag Queen, who sat in with the celebrity contestants.
- Tormai is the the first queen to win Snatch Game yet be sent home on the same day.
- Despite Yara Sofia’s impression of Amy Winehouse in Season 3 placing low at the time, Michelle Visage retrospectively called it a great performance during the Snatch Game episode of Season 9.
- Celebrities who have been impersonated on more than one iteration of the franchise include:
- Amy Winehouse (American and Thai versions)
- Nicki Minaj (American and Thai versions)
- Julia Child (American and UK versions)
- Cardi B (Thai, American and Dutch versions)
- Liza Minelli (American and Canadian versions)
- Rue McClanahan (UK and American versions)
- Dolly Parton (Down Under and American versions)
- Grace Jones (American and Dutch versions)
- Rachel Zoe (American and Canadian versions)
- Season 11 was the first season where nobody was eliminated in a Snatch Game episode and the second season (after All Stars 3) where both season's winner and runner-up placed in the bottom for Snatch Game.
- Baga Chipz and The Vivienne are the first joint winners of Snatch Game on a UK season, as well as the first UK winners overall.
- With US Season 10's Aquaria winning as Melania Trump and UK Season 1's The Vivienne winning as Donald Trump, The Trumps are the first real-life couple to each "win" a Snatch Game.
- Widow Von'Du is both the first queen to portray a couple and both a living and deceased celebrity in the same Snatch Game (Ike and Tina Turner).
- Gigi Goode is the first queen to portray (and win) as a non-human celebrity, playing Sophia the Robot in Season 12.
- Kim Chi, Chi Chi DeVayne and Gigi Goode are the only three queens whose Snatch Game characters had different names to the celebrities that they were actually playing (although Chi Chi's was not intentional; she had merely misspelled Maya Angelou as 'Mya Angelou').
- Dahlia Sin featured in the logo for Season 12's Snatch Game, making her the first previously-eliminated queen to do so.
- Of all the queens to lip-sync for their lives in the Snatch Game episode, seven went on to win a future challenge: Laganja Estranja, Naomi Smalls, Peppermint, Année Maywong, Brooke Lynn Hytes, Priyanka and Utica Queen.
- Out of these, Année Maywong, Brooke Lynn Hytes and Priyanka all won multiple challenges across their seasons.
- Année Maywong is the only queen to win more than one challenge after lip-syncing for her life in Snatch Game.
- Coincidentally, Naomi Smalls, Année Maywong, Brooke Lynn Hytes, Priyanka and Utica all earned their post Snatch Game wins in the makeover challenge.
- Katya also lip-synced during the Snatch Game episode, then later won the commercial and the makeover challenges in All Stars 2. However, Katya was lip-syncing for her legacy, after being named one of the challenge winners.
- Enorma Jean was the first queen to compete in Snatch Game but not be judged on her performance, as she was expelled from the competition prior to the judgement of the challenge.
- Mariah Carey is the only celebrity that both queens who portrayed her in Snatch Game got eliminated for; Kiara and Pangina Heals.
